The purpose of the GMW Academy is to provide a course of instruction on how we can write and run better adventures. From long-form campaigns to single session one-shots, the GMW Academy will teach you how to write fulfilling and engaging content to dazzle your players. More, we’ll provide you with the tools you need to not only be a better tabletop RPG writer, but also a better GM at the table. Your instructors are Matthew and Shawn Stanford, who have several decades of combined experience writing and running RPG sessions.
The outline for the course is complete, but the individual lessons are still being crafted. So, things may change or get adjusted as we go. If you have any questions, suggestions, or angry complaints, email them to us at academy@legendarypants.net
And remember: the story comes first.
When we write, run, or play adventures, we must prioritize the narrative structure of the story. The best content is written and executed according to this approach, and we’re going to show you how to do it.
At the core, any tabletop RPG system you play is a game. Good games require good design, especially as vessels for quality storytelling. We’ll instruct you on how to use game design to enhance your stories.
Once you’ve got the basic narrative structures down, you can start honing your craft and learn advanced storytelling. We’ll give you the tools you need to write and tell better stories at the table.
Of course, writing an adventure is easy. Executing it well? That can be trickier. Learning how to apply your knowledge on the ground and at the table is key. We can show you how to become a truly masterful GM.
